I recently added this large wood engraving to my collection. It's from a December 1857 issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. The caption reads "Winter holidays in the Southern states. Plantation frolic on Christmas Eve. For description see page 62". Unfortunately I do not have the rest of the newspaper and I am very interested to read the description. At the bottom right corner three slave musicians play bones, fiddle, and banjo. Behind them a slave claps to the music while receiving disapproving looks from a slave to his right and a white woman to his left. In the center are two dancing slaves. In the bottom left corner are what appears to be two mischievous slaves, and above them is a dining table where slaves are served food by a white servant.
*Edit* I apologize that the photos uploaded sideways. I'm not sure why they are doing that.
