Event Description
Calling all early banjo, fiddle, guitar, tambo, and bones players to save the date for the second Sweeney Early Banjo Convergence! We will once again gather on the beautiful grounds of the Appomattox Courthouse National Historic Park, where Sweeney was born and learned to play the banjo, for some merry music making and fun. This year will be much less formal in structure than the 2013 event, as we plan to keep lectures to a minimum and banjo stroking to a maximum! The National Historic Park, via Minstrel Banjo member David Wooldridgend us cheap accommodations in a house very close to the park. Here we can bunk down and have access to toilet and kitchen facilities. In exchange, we will have the opportunity to provide a little concert of period music for their visitors. Period dress is of course suggested, but not required. I will post more info as the event develops. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Good luck Convergence attendees. Sounds like a good time in a good place. Wish i could come, but 2 events so far away and close together in time are difficult for folks living far away. Hope the spirit Old Joe is riding high.

Simply a marvelous weekend. Thanks to Mark for having set it up. It was wonderful to have met everyone. Thanks for making a new player so welcome. A big shout out to "Yoko Ono" for the bones lesson. And Paul, the banjo playing at the coffee house was amazing. Mark, Jim, Paul and Mike, thanks for making the late night house jam the Musical highlight of my weekend. I wish we could gather more often. Until next time...

I have to put my 2 cents worth in. The whole weekend was great! Finally got to meet some of the folks I have been talking with on this site. I really enjoyed the group playing and the tips shared by the more experienced players. Getting to play in the Sweeny cabin was a total hoot. Cudos to Mark and Dave for all their work organizing and giving us a really great experience, one I will remember for a long time. Thanks to all the "senior players" who shared their knowledge and for putting up with this green player. I am already looking forward to the next one. We need more folks at this event next time. You will have a blast. A totaly fun time.

Totally worth the 9 1/2 hour drive for the 9 1/2 hours of banjo playing each day in an extraordinary setting with great people. Thanks to Mark and David, and to everyone who was there to play. And I was very happy to meet and talk with Joe Ayers and hear him play.
